Why We Launched the Poetry in America Substack

Why We Launched the Poetry in America Substack

Recently, we launched Along These Lines, the official Poetry in America Substack.

It marks an important step in how we share poetry, how we explore poems—and how we connect with readers.

A New Way To Engage with Poetry

For many years, Poetry in America has introduced audiences to poetry through our acclaimed public television series and in elementary, high school and college classrooms all over the world.

But we believe that poetry belongs in the most ordinary spaces: a dog walk, a morning commute, a trip to the park with your child, a thoughtful pause over a cup of coffee, even an NBA basketball court.

Substack gives us a way to meet poetry fans in these spaces.

What Along These Lines Offers

The Poetry in America Substack is designed to be:

  • Accessible — no prior experience with poetry required
  • Thoughtful — grounded in careful reading and insight
  • Relevant — connecting poems to history and the present moment

We aim for each post to be an invitation: to slow down, to read closely, and to think.

Building a community of readers

More than anything, Along These Lines is about community.

Substack allows for a more direct relationship with our audience—one that’s ongoing, responsive, and shaped by shared curiosity. We look forward to your joining us there.
