On Thursday, June 3rd, Poetry in America Host Elisa New gave a presentation to educators at the NYC Department of Education’s Beyond Access Forum. Over 600 New York City teachers, paraprofessionals, librarians, and other education professionals tuned in to the virtual presentation, ELA for Social and Emotional Learning: Poetry and Renewal.
On April 6th, 2021, PIA host Professor Elisa New and Planet Word Museum’s led “Poems for the Pandemic.”
On January 27, 2021, in the wake of President Joe Biden’s inauguration, partners Theater of War and Poetry in America presented live readings of Robert Hayden’s classic poem “Those Winter Sundays” by actors Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit) and Bill Murray (Ghostbusters, Caddyshack, Rushmore), along with a recording of the new President reading the poem.

On June 12th, 2020, the Sheen Center presented Poetry in America Live “Finishing the Hat” as part of the celebration of Sondheim’s 90th. The most recent event in an ongoing series, this live event involved performance and discussion of lyrics from “Sunday in the Park with George.”
The event featured several guests from the Season 2 episode on the song but was by no means a rehash of well-worn terrain. The live format both expanding the time available for discussion and narrowed in the conversation to fewer guests, creating a discrete and complementary experience.

On March 15th, 2018, Poetry in America and Nautilus produced an exclusive video of Al Gore reading and discussing Ralph Waldo Emerson’s “Each and All” with PIA host Professor Elisa New. The video was accompanied by an article from Poetry in America Curriculum Specialist Gillian Osborne.
